Coachella 2012 pre-sale tickets went on sale today. The website to purchase the tickets was seemingly slammed with traffic, and that created a panic among my peers. “Oh my gawd,” they collectively thought, “This sluggish traffic indicates a demand that must be astronomical! We must purchase these now to avoid another year of an immediate sell-out!” Then I thought, “Oh wow, you know, they’re probably right!” So we all drank the Kool-Aid and put far too much money down for a festival that, contractually, guarantees us nothing, not realizing that perhaps the geniuses at Goldenvoice may have made the website seem sluggish to increase panicked urgency, thus increasing the impulse to buy. It’s like this generation’s version of a countdown timer on a midnight infomercial.
I fell for it and purchased.
And I work in internet marketing.
